Rain And Coltrane

July 21, 2007

The first rain since I got here –soft grey, fine and welcome. I’m having breakfast on my balcony, listening to ‘Dear Lord’ by John Coltrane. This is my favourite time of day: post exercise, mid breakfast and the neighbourhood still asleep. No thoughts on What To Do –with my day, myself, my life. Somehow it’s all downhill from here…

Even though I know the What isn’t really that important. It’s just a means to an end. Anyone closer to the end of their life will tell you that. But while you’re still in the middle of it, there’s no escaping What. You need to fill in those empty spaces, and What with matters a whole lot.

Don’t know, maybe this is just your garden variety 20s existential crisis. Thank god it’s almost over for me…Now let me go and press play again.
