Man, I miss having a camera…
At the Sunday market in the Arab quarter, among the many stalls selling Back To School necessities, there stood a very predictably pink backpack with the face of Barbie printed on the front…only she was wearing a black hijab. Interesting, I thought. The veil was stylized, softly draped in true Barbie style. Is the aim to promote hijab among ever-younger girls, or to make them feel good about wearing one someday, seeing that their role model manages to look wonderful in it?
