Brasil Tropical

February 2, 2008

The town is heating up for carnival –though the temperatures are dropping. Naturally: carnival in Europe wouldn’t be the same without a little nip. I just realised this’ll be the first time in over a decade I see a carnival parade. I wasn’t at all excited about it to be honest, I spent years growing up in a town famous for its take on carnival. But just now on my way home, I was overtaken by a float blasting loud Brasilian music, all the old carnival hits. And on their heels there followed a batteria group, the best I’ve heard in ages, even though there were teenagers. And as I trudged up the stairs to my flat I was still singing along with the music and I thought, I’m going to enjoy this…

When I was 4 or 5 I got lost at a carnival, and my Mom and looking and looking for me. She was crying and freaking out. And she later found me watching a clown make things out of balloons! Ironically, the same thing happened to my own son at Disneyland.

oh no. we were just so glad we found him. there were a LOT of people that night in Disneyland. a little kid could just get swept away with the crowds.
