The Trouble With Motion
October 2, 2008
Bloody hell! Here I am on a beautifully crispy early autumn morning, ready to take off to the South of France for a few days, and I may not even make it out the front door. Yesterday, quite unexpectedly, I had a repeat of the Kami-Gouri incident. I’ve had trouble with motion sickness for most of my life, but recently there’ve been a few times that way surpass the garden variety nausea and queesy stomach I’m used to. Even a short trip on a mountain or coastal road seems to be enough to make me ill for the rest of the day –and I’m talking white as a sheet, lying in bed with fever ill. What’s up with that?! I had two fifteen minute car rides into the mountains and back yesterday, and even this morning as I’m throwing a few clothes into an overnight bag, I’m feeling ill. And I’m supposed to spend four hours in a car this morning. Ain’t gonna happen, feeling like this. Dammit! I wonder why this motion sickness thing is suddenly getting worse, and whether there’s some sort of remedy. Yesterday, as I was trying my best not to puke, my friend told me that an umeboshi (Japanese pickled plum) held in the belly button works. I would have obliged but I was fresh out…any other tips?
